This video demonstrates a Laparoscopic End to End (EEA) ColoRectal Anastomosis by Dr. Shelley Marks.
A surgical fastening apparatus and associated method of use is disclosed. The surgical fastening apparatus includes a handle assembly, a central body portion extending from the handle assembly, and a distal head portion including an anvil head assembly. The anvil head assembly includes an anvil head defining an interior recess, an activator plate, a deformable member, and a securing member.

During the procedure the surgeon went to the peritoneum and placed the eea 31 stapler. The eea anvil was connected to the stapler and insured that there was no turning of the colon or the mesentery and the stapler was fired. The anvil shaft was then attached to the central shaft and the EEA stapler was closed, activated, and fired. And end-to-end colorectal anastomosis was performed after firing the EEA stapler.
The transected ends of the proximal esophagus are grasped with instruments and the anvil of the EEA stapler (Medtronic, Dublin, Ireland) is guided into the open end (Fig. 1 A). This can be difficult as the anvil is prone to “popping” out of the open esophagus if proper pressure is not applied.

Feb 6, 2017 Alternatively, a 21-mm diameter EEA stapler can be used for a smaller caliber esophagus. □ The OrVil™ is a device prepared with an EEA anvil
The esophagogastric anastomosis was created using a 25mm anvil (Orvil, Autosuture, Norwalk, CT) passed trans-orally, in a tilted position, and connected to a 90cm long PVC delivery tube through an opening in the esophageal stump. The anvil assembly is mounted on a 90 cm long PVC delivery tube and is secured to the tube with a suture. When used with the DST Series EEA XL 21 or 25 mm stapler, a circular, double staggered row of titanium staples is placed. Immediately after staple formation, the stapler knife blade resects the excess tissue, creating a circular anastomosis. An EEA anvil is installed in the exteriorized jejunum, which is returned to the abdomen. Through this mini-incision, the anterior wall of the stomach is opened for insertion of the EEA stapler, which penetrates the posterior gastric wall.
